Welcome to my Art Classroom! In my classroom I desire that every child feels seen and feels loved enough to grow as a whole person and artist.
I strive to have my lessons teach not just about art, but about life. My teaching is centered on giving students hands on experiences as well as discovering and expressing their own identities. Then as a class, we learn about ourselves while simultaneously witnessing one another in the process.
Here are few of my teacher samples, my pride and joy - my lesson plans. Enjoy and if you have any feedback feel free to reach out!
I love discussing ways to engage students authentically and wholeheartedly.

Go Figure! Drawing UnitGo Figure! is a lesson plan unit teaching how to realistically draw the human figure. This lesson builds student confidence in drawing because of the explicit break down of techniques in figure drawing as well as the built in practice in the timed figure studio sessions. Building skill is important because many of our students come to us without previous art experience and drawing is intimidating. Projects like this allows them the freedom to "mess up" in the beginning and yet show them their own growth in skill through the process.
In the final product students select their best figures to make a figure drawing collage. Students also add personal figures related to an area they are passionate about. Here is my own digital art example of the final product! Maintain Social Dancing by Lily Raven Leon

Go Figure! makes an excellent addition to a traditional introduction or painting course. As well it could also be part of a larger year long Fiber Arts Course. In a fiber arts course, this unit prepares students to design and make their own clothes. For a final design, students must know how to draw figures in order to make clothes for different body types. The final collage project in Go Figure! could incorporate fabric, sewing and the like.

What's in a Name?
Street Art Unit
|
What's in A Name? is an introductory unit using street art to teach students about basic art elements such as line, color, shape, form & dimension in a highly engaging & accessible way. Many students come to the art room daunted by art believing doing well is only available to the talented few. This lesson allows students to develop foundational art skills through text based art that is a little bit of an easier grasp for beginners.
Moreover, street art teaches students how art is an expression of identity and culture; belonging and resistance. Students grapple with the responsibilities of artists. Street art is an excellent way to have students discuss these topics as with most urban students, they are familiar with street art. In engaging them thus, I am having them begin to intentionally analyze their everyday world around them. |
